# Briefing

Desk workers are central to the smooth operation of most MIT dorms. Frequently, small issues may arise on one desk worker’s shift that other desk workers will need to know about. For example, someone may bring a lost phone to desk that is not picked up until the next day on another worker’s shift. Other times, a desk worker may simply need to share a note with everyone, such as a reminder to tidy up the desk before the end of your shift. Since these types of issues and notes are common, they need an efficient way to share them with all the other desk workers. CollabDesk is a tool for desk workers to efficiently share information about issues and notes with each other.

As you use CollabDesk, keep in mind that we are testing the interface, not you. Please think out loud as you work on each task so we can identify any flaws in the interface.

Scenario Tasks

Part I: Missing package

  1. You are a student desk worker at Baker and just logged into your CollabDesk account. A resident, Jack, approaches you and requests a package. You go to the back room to find his package but it appears to be missing. You reassure him that his package was simply misplaced and create a new message on CollabDesk to let other desk workers know of his missing package. Your task is:
    1. Create a new message on CollabDesk about the missing package.
  2. You are the desk worker for the next shift and just logged into your CollabDesk account. You first take the time to read all the unread messages from previous desk workers and notice the missing package message. You go to the back room and happen to find the package. You reply to the missing package message and mark it as resolved. Your tasks are:
    1. Read all of your unread messages.
    2. Reply to the missing package message and mark it as resolved.

Part II: Resident Information Lookup & Alert Desk Captain

  1. You are a student desk worker at Next House and just logged into your CollabDesk account. A resident, Jill, approaches you and asks for her spare room key. When you go to get her spare key, you realize that it’s missing. You tell her to call Fix-it for the time being and reassure her that desk will find out what happened with her key.  You understand that missing keys must be reported to the desk captain. You create a message to the desk captain regarding the missing key. Your tasks are:
    1. Create a new message regarding the missing key, and bring the message to the attention of the desk captain.
