Explanation

This is the login screen for ConnectEd. Ms. Frizzle will type in her password and will log in.
If she forgets her username or password she can recover them through the
forget username and password link.

Upon login Ms. Frizzle sees the main page of ConnectEd. At the top of the screen she can use the
notification center (news) where she can get updates on the latest activities. For example, a change in schedule.
Afterward she can pick the primary class she would like to communicate with. She could change this selection at a later time.
She can also perform actions that are relevant to all of her classes. She can check message, create forms, and check her calendar.

When she picks a class (3A Hebrew) the layout of the screen will changed and she will have specific options for this class.
These options are: a list of all of her students , a grade book for the class, and assignment section, where she can upload homework
assignment for her students.

When Ms. Frizzle hover over the forms button, it will change into two sub buttons.
The first will allow her to create a new form, and the second will allow her to review existing forms

When Ms. Frizzle clicks the new form button, a pop up window will allow her to create a new form. If she presses escape or click the X
button she will go back to the main page. In the pop up window she picks a template for the form, fill in the activity name, pick the
classes that will attend this activity and set the date of the activity.

Ms. Frizzle can preview the template by clicking the preview button. This will also allow her to manually change the text in the template
if she would like to do that. After she is done with the form she can send it to her class.

When she clicks send, ConnectEd will email all of the parents in the class with a link that will take them to the login screen of ConnectEd
on their computer.

Arnold's mom will sign in to ConnectEd using her username and password.

Arnold's mom main screen shows her the latest news in each category. She can she the current classes that Arnold takes, check his grades, check his assignments, check for incoming messages, address form she has to read and sign, and learn about upcoming events in the calendar.
In this example there is an ice skating permission slip that was sent by Ms. Frizzle.

When she clicks on that form, a pop up window shows her the form. She can either approve it by checking the "I give permission ..."  And approve , deny or asked to be remindedlater about this slip.

Back to Ms. Fizzle computer! Ms. Frizzle would like to know how many students are attending the activity, and how many parents did not sign the permission slip. She hover over form again and click on view existing

This pop up a window (that can be closed by pressing escape or the X button). She can search for the form by typing the name of the activity in a search menu, that will give her options for appropriate slips, based on autocomplete. When she finds the permission slips that she want she can either click on it, press enter or press view in order to view it.

The previous screen will be replaced with a the following table.
The table consist of her students and each student is mark with: check for approved, X for denied, and ? for pending. Ms. Frizzle can filter the table based on the students name, or the status of their permission slip. She can resend the form as a reminder for a specific parent who did not approve or to all the parents who did not do so. Finally she can review the permission slip she sent to the parents.

Analysis

*Efficiency:

Pros:
  • Parent receives e-mail when teacher uploads/updates something
  • Autocomplete when searching in existing forms
  • Teacher sees all parents who approved, denied, and have not submitted the permission slip
  • Teacher can resend to individual parents (and to all parents?)
Cons:
  • When the user clicks on a button, the button changes in place.  The change might not be visible enough and restricts the user's mouse area.

Learnability:

Pros:
  • Buttons are large and clear
  • Parent can view all sections (class list, grade book, assignments, etc) in 1 view
Cons:
  •

Safety:

Pros:
  •
Cons:
  • No password of PIN for parent approval
  • No labels
