This is a draft project plan.
Overview
Debathena is slated to completely replace Athena 9 during Summer 2009 and Fall 2009. This includes not only the public clusters, but quickstations, dorm clusters, and private workstations. While some private workstations are used as "servers", any servers maintained by IS&T or in an IS&T co-lo are outside the scope of this project.
Status
- Public cluster deployments completed, August 2008.
- Quickstation, dorm cluster upgrades on track.
Areas of Concern
- Public clusters
- Podium/lectern workstations in selected classrooms: Outreach to faculty required
- Quickstations: Debathena login process on -cluster machines is slower due to chroot. Possibly mitigation by ensuring all Quickstations are 755s or 760s.
- Private workstations with local data storage: Documentation on data migration is required — there is no upgrade path from Athena 9 to Debathena, a reinstall is required.
Athena 9 EOL Options
- Upgrade to Debathena
- Continue running Athena 9.4 with no support
