Getting Started
Pre-installation
In order to connect to the printers once they're installed, you will need to be connected to the MIT SECURE WiFi network or the GlobalProtect VPN.
Additionally, you will need to uninstall all of the older KI copiers, as well as the devices themselves in your available printer window:
Windows 10 Home:
- Click the Home button, where a search box should then open up.
- Type in "Printers & Scanners" into the search box.
- Open "Printers & Scanners", then left-click the printer that you would like to remove. Then, click 'Remove Device'.
- Once that's done, repeat Step 1.
- Type in "Device Manager" into the search box.
- Open "Device Manager", then left-click "Print Queues".
- Right click the printer driver that you would like to uninstall, then click "Uninstall Device".
Windows 10 Pro, Education or Enterprise:
- Click the Home button, where a search box should then open up.
- Type in "Printers & Scanners" into the search box.
- Open "Printers & Scanners", then left-click the printer that you would like to remove. Then, click 'Remove Device'.
- Once that's done, repeat Step 1.
- Type in "Print Management" into the search box.
- Open "Print Management", left-click "All Drivers", then right click the printer driver(s) that you would like to uninstall and click "Remove driver package".
- Confirm that the uninstallation is complete and close the window.
Mac OS:
- Open System Preferences from the Apple menu in the top left-hand corner in the menu pane, then click Printers and Scanners.
- Remove all printers (not including your home printer(s), if applicable) by left-clicking the printer, then left-clicking the minus sign.
- Then, open Finder. Hold down the Option key and click Go in the top menu pane, then click Library, then Printers. Any remaining printer drivers from past installations are located there.
- Delete all folders (not including your home printer(s), if applicable). For departmental printers and plotters, these should be for the HP PageWide, HP DesignJet, and Xerox AltaLink models.
Installing Plotters and Copiers with Print Deploy
If you already have Mobility Print installed, we recommend that you remove it before installing Print Deploy. To do so, please see the Uninstallation guide below. If you experience any issues after installing the software as defined below, please see Troubleshooting Common Issues with Papercut.
Windows 10:
- Download the Print Deploy client by copy and pasting the following link in a new browser tab: http://18.27.128.213:9191/print-deploy/client/windows
- Install the software by double-clicking on the .msi file in your Downloads folder.
- Once the install wizard is finished, open the software by right-clicking on the white printer icon in your menu bar and clicking 'View my printers'.
MacOS:
- Download the Print Deploy client by copy and pasting the following link in a new browser tab: http://18.27.128.213:9191/print-deploy/client/macos
- Install the software by double-clicking on the .dmg file in your Downloads folder.
- Next, you will need to also click on the .pkg file after opening the .dmg in order to run the installer.
- Open the software by right-clicking on one of the white printer icon in the menu tab (located at the top right hand corner of your screen, near the clock, WiFi and battery icons) and clicking 'View my printers'.
Once opened, it should prompt you to sign in with your MIT Kerberos credentials, and then install the two plotter queues onto your system.
If you would like to add copiers as well, click 'Add Printers', then 'Install' next to the color and black and white queues.
From there, please try printing to one of the listed plotters or copiers, and you should be able to choose from a variety of Architectural and custom sizes.
Badging In
Before being able to print with your MIT ID, you'll need to first 'associate' it with your Kerberos username and password. To do so, please see below:
- At either M07-344 or M07-433, tap your card at the white sticker.
- When given the option to associate the card with an MIT account, tap 'yes'.
- Type in your Kerberos username and password when prompted.
- Your card should now be linked to your account, and can be used to release jobs at any copier or plotter.
Uninstallation
Mac OS:
- In Finder, in Applications, navigate to and open the PaperCut Print Deploy Client or PaperCut Mobility Print Client folder.
- Run Uninstall.command. A small Terminal window will open.
- After the prompt Would you like to uninstall PaperCut Print Deploy Client, type
yes
and press Enter on your keyboard. - When prompted, enter your account password.
The software and the two print queues will be removed. When you see [Process completed], you can close the Terminal window. Once that's done, you should be able to remove the printers and their drivers.
- Open System Preferences from the Apple menu in the top left-hand corner in the menu pane, then click Printers and Scanners.
- Remove all Papercut-managed printers and plotters, by left clicking the appropriate entry, then left-clicking the minus sign.
- Then, open Finder. Hold down the Option key and click Go in the top menu pane, then click Library, then Printers. This is where the driver files themselves are, should any remain.
- Delete all remaining entries for Papercut-managed printers and plotters, if applicable. These should be for the HP PageWide, HP DesignJet, and Xerox AltaLink models.
Windows 10:
- Click the Home button, where a search box should then open up.
- Type in "Add or remove programs" into the search box.
- Click 'Add or remove programs', then scroll down to 'Papercut Print Deploy'.
- Once there, left-click the app, then left-click 'Uninstall'.
