The Tech Squares President/VP are responsible for keeping the club running smoothly. If everyone else does their job well and no issues come up, then being President is not a time-consuming job. However, if other officers need help or if issues arise, the President needs to be able to take care of things. 

Job Description

These are the responsibilities of the President:

  • Run club elections
  • Run the appointment process for appointed officers
  • Welcome new officers & provide them with resources and administrative access they need
  • Keep Tech Squares on the good side of the ASA (send someone to GBM, submit membership and anti-hazing)
  • Schedule, announce, and chair officer and club meetings
  • Keep the club informed
  • Run the standing policy renewal process (make recommendations for any changes, run meetings)
  • Supervise other officers, and be a member of all committees
  • Lead the club through any difficulties that come up

Job Recommendations

Note: these are recommendations. A couple of them are required, but otherwise they are useful attributes for a president/VP to have. 

Minimally active President:
  • Be an MIT student
  • Be an active EC member (attend EC meetings, read and contribute to officer discussions)
Active President/VP (whoever is doing the bulk of the job):
  • Care a lot about keep Tech Squares running
  • Experience with how Tech Squares operates (ie from being an officer before)
  • Good at sending email
  • Organized
  • Good at leading group discussion/ running meetings
  • On top of deadlines
  • Good at recruiting others to help
  • Willing to put in time and effort to deal with a crisis
Supportive VP (to an active President):
  • Experience with how Tech Squares operates (ie from being an officer before)
  • Knowledge of how issues were dealt with in the past (either directly, or through knowing who to talk to)
  • Interested in advising newer officers
  • Willing to help out the President significantly if necessary

Recent (acting) Presidents have included Alex Dehnert and Laura Dean.
