Objectives
Design and build a robot using the LEGO MINDSTORMS kits to complete the challenges as described below.
The overarching goals are:
Have Fun
Promote teamwork
Stimulate intense creative thinking by the competitors
Encourage cooperation between teams and individuals in solving shared challenges
Present an opportunity for teams and team members to demonstrate outstanding mechanical and software design abilities
Understand the value of Systems Engineer, Architecture & Thinking
Competition - because a winner must be crowned
strength
style
speed
appearance
Events
Relay race, autonomous baton exchange (CS)
Tug-o-war (TA)
Archery (DJ)
Synchronized dancing (MC)
Rules and Scoring
Each event will have its own scoring scheme. Points will be totaled at the end to determine the winner.
Each round will start with a 'blow horn' which should autonomously activate the robots
Robots will be permitted modifications during sessions designated as "PIT stops" between events
Maximum of 20 minutes. Bonus points will be given for faster check-in with refs. Points will be lost for those robots that are late to the events.
Opening ceremony points will be awarded per scoring scheme TBD (AS)
Other Notes
An opening ceremony will precede the DC1 competition, details TBD (AS)
Teams will introduce themselves: the name, their flag, color, aesthetics, theme music (loud!), dance
Each team will receive an additional standard 'kit' from previous years' leftovers (wheels, servos, brik, etc.)
There will be prizes
You may challenge us...
Demand an explanation or justification of the rules... you may not get the answer you want, but it will become clear on Friday.

Bonus Points
Hey- so as for the point breakdown for the non- event activities I was just thinking that we would start at 100pts, and drop 10 pts for each place.
The team spirit points will be awarded based on the flag, team name, theme song and overall team spirit. Obviously its subjective so I wasn't sure what to write for how the points would be awarded but I think its fair enough just to say they will be awarded based on appearance, creativity and attention to detail. And it should be added that this portion of the competition is meant to be a fun escape from the programming and engineering activities so the more fun the team seems to be having with it, the more likely they will be to win the "team spirit" award.
