DRAFT!!  EDIT AS YOU SEE FIT!
RISG Minutes, 11/28/07Present: Maggie Bartley, Peter Cohn (chair), Remlee Green (minutes), Lisa Horowitz, Angie Locknar, Heather McCann, Georgiana McReynolds, Alan Rostoff, Lisa Sweeney, Mark Szarko
Announcements:* Angie updated the Instruction web page.

  • Instruction Stats form is almost done!  Sands is finishing some last details, but it should be ready soon.

Update from IAP coordinators:

6 courses are live in the IAP directory so far, and lots more are coming.  Sessions need to be submitted by 12/14 in order to be included on the poster.  The brown bag on IAP planning went well.  The Libraries' IAP Coordinators attended a lunch with all MIT IAP coordinators; a suggestion was made to have the ability to choose multiple categories for a session.

Barton searching: Rebecca Lubas had mentioned wanting to do a "Stump the Catalogers" session for library staff during IAP.  The session would explain the structure of the catalog and bring up some secrets of cataloging and displays.  This may be a good class for students, if the subject were broader.  Peter will follow up with Rebecca.

*Instruction Assessment Survey:*An RISG subgroup is starting to work on an assessment instrument to be ready for IAP.  The subgroup has met a few times and has come up with some survey questions.  Since the instruction plan mentions a robust assessment in the Fall, the survey will be kept simple for now.  Because of some limitations in using Zoomerang for surveys, a paper survey will be used for IAP.  Instruction Coordinators will collect the surveys, and the data will be entered into Zoomerang, so that results can be better manipulated.

*System-wide instruction plan implementation:*Authors of the plan have met to figure out how to implement the plan, and a preliminary timeline with recommendations is in place.  After a more thorough timeline is developed, the group will describe the plan to RISG, to distribute tasks in the timeline.

*Refining priorities for the year: & come up with a checklist of recurring items in RISG's purview:*The group prioritized goals and created a list of recurring goals on the RISG wiki goals page.
