Design
Sustainer: single separation, dual deploy
Booster: single separation, single deploy
Parachutes
Requirements:
- Shall deploy at apogee (Booster Main, Sustainer Drogue) or 2000 ft. (Sustainer Main)
- Shall bring the rocket down at safe descent velocity (Note: Phoenix requirements state that hardware should be able to survive 30 ft/s impact)
- Shall withstand inflation loads
Material:
Ripstop nylon (COTS from Fruity Chutes)
Risks:
- Doesn't deploy
- Deploys early
- Shreds
- Squidding
Parachute Selection:
Diameter (ft.) | Drag Coefficient | Descent Velocity (ft/s) | |
---|---|---|---|
Booster Main | 5 | 2.2 | 15 |
Sustainer Drogue | 1.5 | 1.6 | 70 |
Sustainer Main | 4 | 2.2 | 20 |
