Most of the tools that team uses can be found in a box on the Recovery shelf labeled "Sewing Supplies." The sewing machine that we use is a Singer Heavy Duty (Model No. 4423):

Threading Standards

Tensions

    • The lower thread tension (controlled by the bobbin) should be marginally less than the upper [1; 3.701]
    • For maximum seam strength, use the minimum amount of upper and lower tension necessary for an even and firm seam. [1; 3.703]

Thread Type

  • The golden standard for nylon parachute thread is V-T-295, ss MIL-T-7807, Type II, Class I, Subclass A [1; 4.055]
    • Type II: twisted bonded multiple cord
    • Class 1: Low elongation (Max 22%)
    • Subclass A: General Purpose
