SAFETY PRECAUTIONS:

  • All participants must wear safety glasses.

  • Call MIT Police 617-253-1212 to report an emergency.

GOALS:

  • Qualify and test the active separation mechanism without the dependencies and difficulties of a full load test. 

  • Validate the manufacturing and integration of our hardware components

OVERVIEW:

The active separation mechanism is brought to an open, clear space. The mechanism is activated remotely, and the results are recorded via video footage. 

MATERIALS:

  • ASIT Mechanism

  • Battery

  • Extension cord/wire to attach battery and ASIT Mechanism

  • Phones, or other means of video recording

PROCEDURE:

  1. Connect the ASIT mechanism to the extension wire (do not attach the wire to the battery)

  2. Start recording video of the mechanism, specifically aimed to capture the mechanism from all angles. 

  3. Move a safe distance away from the mechanism

  4. Initiate mechanism via remote (electronic) activation

  5. Physically examine the mechanism, review video footage to determine if separation would have been achieved.
