Millstone Hill 150 Foot Antenna Wear Track Repair
These are photos from the repair of the 150 foot steerable Antenna's wear track. These tracks support the antenna elevation bogey as it is driven back and forth by the antenna Elevation drive system. Each side of the elevation system has a bogey and each track has a top and bottom wear plate. Last repairs were about 20 years ago. The old tracks pealed up leaving a gap on one side. They were also bowing up on the other. When the tracks were removed it was clear most of the welds were broken.
General Location Photos
The wear tracks are located in the elevation drive assemblies. There is one of each side of the antenna at the mid-deck platform which is about 100 feet above ground level.
Old Wear Track Photos
The old wear track had been distorted by all the years of motion and it curls up when removed. Fortunately the existing angle iron support sections could be used. This allowed replacement of the wear plates while avoiding any significant alignment problems.

The new tracks are very clean with good low hydrogen welds. The antenna is now on the new track sections while the old ones are removed and repaired.
