Note that the “Creator”, “Composer”, and “Performer” values are only applicable to Resources. This element should always be used in conjunction with a lom:lom/lifeCycle/contribute/role/source element whose value is “MIT OCW Contributor Roles”.

The name of a person or organization that has contributed to the preparation of the Resource.

Authority Control should be provided in choosing the form of the contributor's name. Each assigned Contributor should be paired with a Contributor Role element that appropriately characterizes the contribution. There are four kinds of Contributors: Creators, Course Instructors, Composers, and Performers. Course Instructors are those members of the MIT faculty listed on the course home page. They should be assigned to the Course and all of its Sections and Resources. Creators are those individuals other than Course Instructors that are primarily responsible for Resource content. Composers are those individuals that are primarily responsible for the creation of music included in audio and video Resources. Performers are those individuals that appear in audio and video Resources. Creators, Composers, and Producers are assigned exclusively to Resources where applicable.

This element applies primarily to image resources, but it is applicable to any resource that is used by the permission of it's rights holder. This element is often used to satisfy attribution requirements for the use of a Resource.

Use the IEEE LOM defined controlled vocabulary for this element. In that vocabulary there are four allowable values “4”, “3”, “2”, and “1”, where 4 = Course, 3 = Section, 2 = Resource, 1 = Object. The value of this element for Resources will always be “2”. The element should always be used in conjunction with a lom:lom/general/aggregationLevel/source element whose value is “LOMv1.0”.
