Week of October 8: I researched UN policies on the regulation of international deep waters. In particular, I focused my research on the FAO Fishing and Aquaculture department- they have some recommended codes of conduct and a few suggestions on how overfishing might be reduced. Their plans are a little bit vague, but perhaps we might be able to incorporate some of the better main ideas in our team's "solution." I added a wiki page entitled: "Current UN Involvement in the Management of International Deep Waters (and fishing)" which contains a breakdown of what I found on the UN site (to save you guys the trouble of ploughing through the information ).
Week of October 15: I have begun researching the UK's involvement in deep sea fishing as well as its policies concerning that issue. I have also done some more general research on Team 5's topics. Below is a link to an interesting JSTOR article I found (I promise I will read it properly and post a new page with a breakdown of the information!
This week Alex J, Danielle and I created a powerpoint by which we presented our findings thus far to the entire Mission 2011 group.
Week of October 22: This week Team 5 began creating a solution in response to the specific issues that we deal with. This can be accessed through the main Mission 2011 page.
Week of October 29: The whole class has begun to pull together at this point and we have defined two main goals to help us form our class solution.
