To access your bill

To access your monthly bill, go to MIT WebSIS (http://student.mit.edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/) and click on "MITPAY" under the category of FInancial Record.

MITPAY is this oddly looking site where you deal with all your school-related financials... Click on "View Accounts" to see what bills you have for the current month and any previous months.

Note: the Fall 2015 term is labeled as "Fall 2016" on MITpay system. My only guess is that that means Fall of academic year 2015-2016.

What you should pay:

If you are fully funded (either by NSE directly or through external fellowships), you should only be responsible for the following two charges for now:

  1. "Graduate Student Life Fee:" in the amount of $152 for Fall 2016, occur during the first month of every semester;
  2. Dorm charge & tax if you live on campus. Remember to pay off these bill by the end of each month. Pay attention to the "payment due date" on each page.

Later down the road, you might get other charges, like the MIT ID fee for replacing an ID, bus/subway pass fee if you choose to purchase a MBTA pass through MIT, or the thesis fee when you finish your degree.

What you should not pay:

You will see charges like the following two, and DO NOT PAY Tuition & health insurance charges if you are fully funded by our department!

01-Jul-2015Fall 201623,200.00Regular Graduate Tuition617-258-6409
01-Jul-2015Fall 20161,070.00Health Insurance Fall 2015 Student617-258-5329

What happens is that it might take a month or two before NSE can set up the right magic to pay off these two charges, and you might see "late fee" generated from not paying off the charges, but they will go away as soon as NSE pays them (if the late fee does not go away, call your financial counselor whose name and number is listed on your MITPAY page)

Resources related to finance:

  • When in doubt of any charges, call the number listed next to the item in the MITPAY page. They are typically pretty good at figuring what's going on and resolving issues for students.
  • Financial counselor is the person assigned to you based on the first letter of your last name that deals with general business related to your MIT student account. Check https://sfs-mit-edu.ezproxyberklee.flo.org/contact for the most up-to-date list. As of July 2015, the assignments are:
