Section 4 of the JISC document entitled Significant Properties of Moving Images provides a useful framework for distinguishing features of video that require their own metadata considerations: http://www.jisc.ac.uk/media/documents/programmes/preservation/spmovimages_report.pdf -- among the core features identified by JISC (in section 4.4.1) are:
- size and shape of the individual images (that make up the video sequence)
- detail in which the images are recorded
- speed at which they follow each other in sequence, when presented
- accompanying audio
- overall length of the sequence
What matters:
- Content (image stream, audio stream, length)
- Context (subject, identifier, rights, provenance)
- Rendering (resolution, gamut, pixel aspect ratio, frame rate, audio aspects)
- Structure (relationships of audio and video)
