Making Spaghetti is not as easy as it sounds. Thus, this page.
Shopping list:
(don't forget to check for allergies before you shop)
-Pasta (1 lb feeds approximately 4 people)
-Sauce (1 or 2 types)
-Other snacks (chips, cookies, etc)
-Plates or bowls
-Forks
If there's a gluten allergy:
-Buy enough gluten free pasta (often found in the health section or the organics section) for just the person with the allergy
-Check that your other food is gluten free.
-If the following ingredients are in the product, it's not gluten free: wheat, barley, malt, spelt, oats or gluten
-Don't cross contaminate: keep your dishes and spoons separate
Cooking:
-Bring a shopping cart to whereever you're cooking, or have another plan for carrying it all
-Be sure to set aside enough time
-Have a plan to have an ASM or producer start the rehearsal without you in case the food is late
-Boil water in as many pots as possible: it'll boil faster that way (Boiling a large pot of water can take over an hour)
-After the water is boiling, you can add it all back into one big pot if you want
-Cook the pasta, following the directions on the box
-If you're nice, you can heat up the sauce. If you're not nice, don't bother. Noone will care.
Running Rehearsal
-If you have a chalkboard, write out each scene so that people can see what progress has been made
-Before you start, make sure everyone knows your policy- will you restart after long pauses? Slight changes in single words that don't make a difference? Etc.
-Example policy: A scene will be restarted after one large mistake (ie, missed a line) or three small mistakes (ie. one word messed up)
-Even if you don't restart a scene after a slight mess-up, tell the person that they messed up, so they can fix it
-If someone is having trouble with a monologue, just restart the monologue until they can get through it without messing up. Then restart the scene.
-The week before Spaghetti, watch (and have ASMs watch) to see which scenes need the most work so that you can do those.
-Have (and tell people) a policy for how long spaghetti will go. Until done? Until done unless the sun is rising on the day after? Until midnight? etc.
-Have an ASM around so that you have a chance to eat/ breathe. They can also help people work on scenes while you're running scenes they're not in.
