This is pretty much working now - 617-258-7225 or sip:track@mit.edu.
The students running this would like to turn it over to IS&T as a production service.
I've suggested two improvements to the students running this.
- Rather than reporting the number of seconds since the since the last updated location say:
- "The shuttle is at X." if the location has not changed in the last ten seconds
- "The shuttle has left X." if the location has changed in less than one minute
- And "The shuttle left X, N minutes ago." if the location changed more than one minute ago
This will eliminate the expectation that locations are accurate to the second and the reporting that the shuttle has left n seconds ago when it is sitting at a stop waiting.
- Cache the callers shuttle preference so that when they call back they are automatically given the location of their "favorite" shuttle.
After the message there would need to be an option to choose a different shuttle.
Any other thoughts on improvements? I also suggested to them that they use the IS&T usability lab services - but I suspect that this might not get done until there are plans to turn this into a production service.
