I've been trying to use the Gel Doc camera. Its a work in progress, but I've outlined my procedure below.
However, I cannot figure out how to best-focus the camera. If anyone can figure that out, do update this.
- Be sure that there are no camera-related programs on the computer
- If so, quit the programs and turn off the camera
- Quitting the camera programs may take a minute
- Turn on the Camera and switch to "play" mode
- The CameraWindowDVC+ program will start on the computer
- Click on the remote shooting tab
- Click the image next to "Starts Remote Shooting"
- A finder window will pop up: Choose the "Gel Doc" folder OR save to Images folder in Dropbox - ask Tim for Cloud Access
- The RemoteCapture program will start
- Click the "Start ViewFinder" image on the middle-right side of the program. The image looks like the back of a camera. This will show you the picture that you are taking
- Under the Field angle/flash tab
- Turn Macro ON
- Turn Flash off
- Under the Shooting settings tab
- Switch the AE mode to "Manual"
- Make the AV as large as possible
- Make the TV as large as possible
- Switch the AE mode to "Manual"
- Zoom in using the slide-bar on the right side of the program
- Adjust your gel and (gently!) twist the camera to center the image
- Hit the button under "Release" to take your image
- The image will save to the "Gel Doc" folder on the desktop.
- Adjust the AV and TV settings to optimize the exposure level (Step 6)
