Setting up a device password within a BlackBerry 8830
- Press the Menu Key, using the trackball cursor highlight Options and click.
- Scroll the trackball cursor to Security Options, and click.
- Click General Settings.
- Within General Settings, highlight and click Disable (right of Password) and change it to Enabled.
- Now press the Menu Key, and click Save.
Note: This password doesn't need to be complex, just something to prevent an unauthorized user from looking through your device in the case you've misplaced or lost the device. We recommend a 4-6 character password. (open for discussion, more or less, input welcomed?)
- You will be prompted to enter a New Password, at this point you will need to decide upon a password that is easy to enter while on the go.
- You be prompted to re-enter the password to verify consistency.
- At this point you are all set. Additional security options are available within the Options -> Security Options -> General Options.
Note: By default, you are given 10 password attempts, after you've exceeded the 10 attempts the BlackBerry 8830 will automatically erase and reload the device purging ALL data on the device.
Note: After setting a device password, you will be prompted for this password when you attempt to sync with either BlackBerry Desktop Manager or PocketMac.
