Flow physics refers to the complex physical fluid phenomena and processes that are important in the accurate CFD simulation of product performance, reliability, and safety over a wide range of flight regimes in the operation of aerospace vehicles and propulsion systems. Examples of flow physics include:

  • Turbulence and all forms of flow separation
  • Flow transition
  • Combustion (turbo-machinery, scramjet inlets, etc.)
  • Finite-rate gas chemistry
  • Ionization, non-equilibrium, and plasma flows (during reentry, etc.)
  • Fuel spray mixing
  • ...and many others
