OEIT Virtual Conference Room
The purpose of the VCR was to create a space where we could communicate with globally distributed members of the MIT Community and conduct meetings on the fly. By using a live video stream coupled with the voice chat capabilities of Second Life and projected audio, we were able to create an environment of seamless discourse between our conference room and its virtual counterpart. As MIT has a growing number of faculty and students working abroad, this model allows us to include that audience into real time discourse. By expanding beyond the physical presentation space, participants are not hindered by geo-specific placement and are provided with a more immersive experience than traditional communication models.
