- To fire an object towards a stationary target from within a 'launch zone'
Gameboard and Setup
- There will be two important zones on the board
- The launch area - a bot is not allowed to leave the launch area; the dimensions are 40" x 60" (width is 60", depth is 40").
- The short zone - targets will be placed a short distance (0~50cm) from the launch area
- The medium zone - targets will be placed a medium distance (50~125cm) from the launch area
- The long zone - targets will be placed far away (125~200cm) from the launch area
- Gameboard layout:
- Launch zone approximately 18" wide
- Scoring regions - each scoring region is 12" wide and will be marked by raised obstacle.

Rules
- Each team will have a total of five shots
- Only 3 shots will be scored to maximize your score.
- The object must hit the target before anything else in order to obtain points
- Each team will place their robot robot will be placed in the launch zone in their choice of orientation.
- The team will decide the zone they will like to target - short, medium, or long
- The target will be randomly placed within the specified launch zone. The target will be placed so the face of the object is perpendicular to the forward facing direction of the launch zone.
- The robot will autonomously start with the sound of the horn
- The robot must find the target, and fire autonomously fire autonomously
- A time limit of 45 seconds from start to when the ball is fired will be enforced
- The bot gets to fire one shot at the that target
- After the shot, the team can select the same region, or change to a different region for their next shotThe team will have a total of five throws with the top three scores taken
- Points are awarded based on the zone selected and the flexibility of the robot to hit targets in multiple zones
- Teams are not allowed to modify software or hardware between shots.
Scoring
Each robot is given 3 throw attempts; only the best score is recorded - Scoring is based on the best forward progress of the ball The ball must land within the playing field at least once for the attempt to be validThe same software program must be used for each shot.
- Clarification: teams will be permitted minor changes in configuration (e.g., latches) between attempts but no hardware additions or subtractions. Teams with robots that are able to hit two zones without any changes to the original initial configuration will be awarded 3 bonus points. Teams with robots that are able to hit three zones without any changes to the original initial configuration will be awarded 6 bonus points.
- The target shape will be a half-circle (radius of 5") on top of a rectangle (7"x 7"). The rectangular portion will be standing while the circular portion will lie flat on the ground. See Tim (the 6'2" guy) for an illustration.
- The total time limit for the 5 attempts is 7 minutes. All shots after 7 minutes will be forfeited.
Scoring
- The scoring scheme is as follows:
- Throw distance: region # x 10 pts
- Throw the ball from outside the launch zone: -20 pts
- Robot moving into the scoring region: -10 pts
- At this point, the team may take a mulligan at a 5 point penalty.
- Throw that exceeds the scoring field will be scored with maximum points + 5pts.
- Maximum penalty is 30 pts deducted from best throw.
- Hitting a target in the:
- Short zone - 10 points
- Medium zone - 15 points
- Long zone - 20 points
- Hitting one target in each of the zones - plus 30 additional points to the target scores (75 total points)
- Hitting one target in two different zones - plus 15 additional points
- Hitting two or more targets with a single configuration (no changes in original initial configuration) - plus 3 or plus 6 points, see Rules.
- Hitting a target in the:
- Penalties
- Activity that is not autonomous - 5 point penalty
- Leaving the launch zone - 5 point penalty
- Leaving the launch zone two consectutive times before a launch is made results in a forfeit of one shot
- Exceeding 45 seconds will result in a forfeited throw
