I've been trying to use the Gel Doc camera.  Its a work in progress, but I've outlined my procedure below.
However, I cannot figure out how to best-focus the camera.  If anyone can figure that out, do update this.

  1. Be sure that there are no camera-related programs on the computer
    1. If so, quit the programs and turn off the camera
    2. Quitting the camera programs may take a minute
  2. Turn on the Camera and switch to "play" mode
  3. The CameraWindowDVC+ program will start on the computer
    1. Click on the remote shooting tab
    2. Click the image next to "Starts Remote Shooting"
    3. A finder window will pop up: Choose the "Gel Doc" folder OR save to Images folder in Dropbox for Cloud Access
    4. The RemoteCapture program will start
  4. Click the "Start ViewFinder" image on the middle-right side of the program.  The image looks like the back of a camera.  This will show you the picture that you are taking
  5. Under the Field angle/flash tab
    1. Turn Macro ON
    2. Turn Flash off
  6. Under the Shooting settings tab
    1. Switch the AE mode to "Manual"
      1. Make the AV as large as possible
      2. Make the TV as large as possible
  7. Zoom in using the slide-bar on the right side of the program
  8. Adjust your gel and (gently!) twist the camera to center the image
  9. mode
  10. Click on PSRemote on the desktop. It will connect to the camera
  11. Click Camera -> Live Viewfinder.
  12. Try these settings first:
    1. Exp Mode: Manual
    2. Tv: 15"
    3. Av: 8
    4. ISO: Auto (or 54)
    5. Size/Quality: Large/normal
    6. White balance: Auto
    7. Auto-focus distance: Close-up
    8. Focus points:Auto
  13. Adjust zoom as needed above Exp mode.
  14. Adjust your gel and twist the camera as needed.
  15. When you're happy with what you see, press Release. It will take 15 seconds to capture the image - don't panic and don't move the camera or gel box.Hit the button under "Release" to take your image
  16. The image will save to the "Gel DocCommon Gels" folder on the desktop. Adjust the AV and TV settings to optimize the exposure level (Step 6)Move this to your own shared Dropbox folder.
