This non-computer interface is very simple and extremely efficient. It doesn’t require any schedule commitment; Busy Brenda could pass by the school any time she is free and deliver or collect messages.

Design 2 – Teacher-Parent Voicemail

   Image Removed

This design has two parts: a web interface and a phone interface.

  • Busy Brenda could schedule a conversation with Teacher Tammy by either logging into the web interface, and writing the message, or by calling Teacher Tammy’s phone number and leave a voice mail.
  • The voice mail would be translated into text (by some program like Google Voice), and Teacher Tammy would then hear the voicemail or read it in her web interface.
  • After Teacher Tammy would type or record a new message regarding Sarah’s performance, Busy Brenda would get a phone call by the program that would reproduce or read her the message. She would also be able to check the messages in the web interface, if she has Internet connection.

 - Observation Tablet

The interface is designed to be ultra-efficient. The teacher can take fast notes of anything she observes, and communicate all these observations to Busy Brenda. Busy Brenda can check her mail daily and stay updated on Sarah’s progress.

The main screen has the name of each student.

  • When Teacher Tammy checks Sarah successfully did her homework, she would click, “New”, then Sarah’s name, and then she would in the textbox. She would then click “Save”, and the message would get saved into Sarah’s profile.
  • At the end of the day, after taking several notes about Sarah’s progress, Tammy would click into Sarah’s profile, and send all her comments to Sarah’s mom.

The second picture shows how Sarah’s profile would look like.

  • Tammy would be able to see the messages she has already sent and the messages she wrote that day. She would click on the ones she would want to send and click “Send”.
  • Busy Brenda would then receive an email with all the comments.
