Problem Statement
Satisfying MIT’s humanities requirement can involve navigating a complex and confusing system of categories and restrictions. Currently, the primary tool that MIT students use in schedule planning and course selection is the official MIT Course Catalog; in survey of 70 undergraduates, 89% said that they use the course catalog to choose their HASS classes. However, the course catalog does not provide adequate search options, and it is difficult for users to browse the results of their search. In addition, finding all the pertinent details of a class may involve consulting multiple resources, including the course catalog, HKN evaluations, Stellar, individual course websites, and word of mouth.
