These devices replaced the Pyrotechnic Rope Cutters (PRCs) when it was discovered that paracord is really stretchy at Mach 1 aeroloads. These pin devices retained the parafoil hatch until a nichrome wire melted through allowing the spring loaded pins to release a detent on the hatch.
