  1. Press the Menu Key, using the trackball cursor highlight Options and click.

  2. Scroll the trackball cursor to Security Options, and click.

  3. Click General Settings.
  4. Within General Settings, highlight and click Disable (right of Password) and change it to Enabled.

  5. Now press the Menu Key, and click Save.

    Note: This password doesn't need to be complex, just something to prevent an unauthorized user from looking through your device in the case you've misplaced or lost the device. We recommend a 4-6 character password. (open for discussion, more or less, input welcomed?)

  6. You will be prompted to enter a New Password, at this point you will need to decide upon a password that is easy to enter while on the go.

  7. You be prompted to re-enter the password to verify consistency.
  8. At this point you are all set. Additional security options are available within the Options -> Security Options -> General Options.

Note: After setting a device password, you will be prompted for this password when you attempt to sync with either BlackBerry Desktop Manager or PocketMac.

Note: By default , you are given 10 password attempts, after you've exceeded the 10 attempts limit the BlackBerry 8830 will automatically erase and reload the device purging ALL data on the device.
