Gameboard and Setup
- There will be two important zones on the board
- The launch area - a bot is not allowed to leave the launch area
- The short zone - targets will be placed a short distance from the launch area
- The medium zone - targets will be placed a medium distance from the launch area
- The long zone - targets will be placed far away from the launch area
- Gameboard layout:
- Launch zone approximately 18" wide
- Scoring regions - each scoring region is 12" wide and will be marked by raised obstacle.
- The launch object will be provided by the Challenge Design team
Rules
- Each team will have a total of five shots
- The robot will be placed in the launch zone
- The team will decide the zone they will like to target - short, medium, or long
- The target will be randomly placed within the specified launch zone
- The robot will autonomously start with the sound of the horn
- The robot must find the target, and fire autonomously fire autonomously (-2 point deduction if not autonomous)
- A time limit of 45 seconds from start to when the ball is fired will be enforced
- The bot gets to fire one shot at the that target
- After the shot, the team can select the same region, or change to a different region for their next shot
- The team will have a total of five throws with the top three scores taken
- Points are awarded based on the zone selected and the flexibility of the robot to hit targets in multiple zones

- Each robot is given 3 throw attempts; only the best score is recorded

- The scoring scheme is as follows:
- Throw distance: region # x 10 pts
- Throw the ball from outside the launch zone: -20 pts
- Robot moving into the scoring region: -10 pts
- At this point, the team may take a mulligan at a 5 point penalty.
- Throw that exceeds the scoring field will be scored with maximum points + 5pts.
- Maximum penalty is 30 pts deducted from best throw.
- Hitting a target in the:
- Short zone - 10 points
- Medium zone - 15 points
- Long zone - 20 points
- Hitting one target in each of the zones - plus 30 additional points to the target scores (75 total points)
- Hitting one target in two different zones - plus 15 additional points
- Hitting a target in the:
- Penalties
- Activity that is not autonomous - 5 point penalty
- Leaving the launch zone - 5 point penalty
- Leaving the launch zone two consectutive times before a launch is made results in a forfeit of one shot
- Exceeding 45 seconds will result in a forfeited throw
