Using engineered embryonic stem cell derived microglia as a delivery vehicle in ex vivo gene therapy:

They used microglia transduced with GFP then NT-3 and administered them intra-venously into mice that were induced with a demyelinating disease (experimental autoimmune encaphalomyelitis).

They found that the microglia were able to enter the spinal cord but not the brain and that they migrated to inflammatory regions which could be useful in Alzheimer's Disease due to the inflammation associated with plaques.
